Cierto es que hay grupos que resultan interesantes, de entrada, por la procedencia de sus miembros. Nadie negará que Aina fue un grupo legendario en la escena underground, no solo barcelonesa sino europea; o que Shanty Rd. fue uno de los grupos más innovadores e inquietos de los últimos años. O que, entre otras cosas, The Moon Men se caracterizan por una base rítmica más que sólida. Todo esto está muy bien, pero el mérito no es vivir del pasado, sino agarrarlo con valentía, sacudirlo sin temor y ser capaz de sobreponerse a él. Y solo hay una manera de conseguirlo: con personalidad y talento. Y por esa razón, la irrupción de Nueva Vulcano hace apenas dos años en la escena underground, con un extraordinario debut como "Principal primera" en 2004, fue uno de los acontecimientos que más alegría nos ha traído en los últimos tiempos. Nueva Vulcano es la quintaesencia de lo que los amantes de la música queremos encontrar en un grupo de rock; porque todos sus elementos, (a saber; una guitarra heredera del sonido indie americano, un bajo hipercativo que a veces parece el instrumento solista, una batería contundente como pocas y, quizás su elemento más personal, más fundamental, más conmovedor, las brillantes palabras que escupe una voz única como la de Artur), que ni son muchos ni pretenden demostrar nada, estan colocados con la maestría, carácter y, sobretodo, honestidad, que pocos saben encontrar. Para acabarlo de corroborar, su segundo largo, "Juego entrópico", llegó todavía más lejos, más profundo y más arriba que su predecesor, e hizo que la interpretación de sus canciones en directo cada vez fuera más sobrecogedora.
Precisamente la intensa actividad en directo (gira por Estados Unidos con The Life And Times, innumerables conciertos por la península...) y la edición de un single de 7 pulgadas, "Los días señalados" (BCore, 07) más otro EP compartido con The Life And Times (Trece Grabaciones, 07)) lo que les ha mantenido cuatro años hasta llegar a "Los Peces de Colores" (BCore, 09). Un disco maravilloso, con un Artur Estrada en estado de gracia como letrista y un puñado de canciones dónde la banda se percibe más fuerte que nunca. Pasión, poesía, emoción y rock and roll en estado puro; el único grupo que hace que el punk rock sea más elegante que cualquier otra baratija tendenciera de esta Barcelona del diseño, y más conmovedora que cualquier engendro sentimentaloide disfrazado de arte.
VAGUE ANGELS (Taranto, IT)

Chris Leo was born in 1974 in Belleville, the provincial capital of the region known for that century as the the Pasta Triangle, in the Garden State ("...like an immense barrel, filled with good things to eat, and open at both ends with Pennsylvanians grabbing from one end and the New Yorkers from the other") of New Jersey. And like that Jersey stuck between the cancering behemoths; like that Jersey neither American Heartland proper nor New York City ever; like that Belleville neither Newark black nor Montclair wasp (and ditto for all Irish-Italo-Americans!); standing 5"9' like the tallest Bolivian and the shortest Swede; like being born the middle son of the only consciable lawyer who would tithe a Paraguayan GDP while hiding an equivalent from the IRS (hypothetically); like being raised in the biggest house of an inner-suburban town blighted by white flight; Chris Leo's lot has been cast circumstantially as mediator provacateur. Pushed not to the outside periphery, but to all edges of the inside, stuck in such a middle, he couldn't help but figure most of it out.
He sees a lot of obvious simple things you may have overlooked on your quest for grand notions, like how having nowhere to fall means there's nowhere to fall; like how intimacy is fine, one should try it all the time; like how straight men call the entrails of animals dinner yet navigate around the human form with prudence (with women) and chastity (with other men); like whether words/swords/sordid/or order, if you never tire stretching the truth the drawn out ends eventually meet up again; and other wicked smart things.
He is the author of the novels "White Pigeons" and "57 Octaves Below the Middle C Buzzed by the Bee", the cantautore behind over ten albums with over ten bands, and the curator and creator (along with poet Jon Curley) of the legendary "Haiti's Hades Harlequins' Hymns" lyrics vs poetry vernissageries. Though "wherever he lays his hat is his home" is still loosely true, principally his time is divided between between Cupra Marittima in Le Marche and Washington Heights in Manhattan.
MANTISA (Zarautz, EH)

Mantisa taldea Zarautzen sortu zen, 2004an. Euskal Herriko hardcore eszenatik abiatu bazen ere, Iosu Gonzalez (ahotsa eta gitarra), Ganix Illarramendi (gitarra eta ahotsa), Iñigo Azkue (Baxua) eta Iñaki Castrok (bateria) osatzen duten taldeak egun rock estiloaren baitako ate guztiak irekita izan nahi ditu. Azken urteetan Euskal Herrian eta Katalunian eman dituzte kontzertuak. Taldeko kitarrajotzaile eta abeslari Iosu Gonzalezek grabatu, nahastu eta masterizatu du taldearen lehen diskoa, Mantisa, eta Gor disketxeak argitaratu du. Hamasei abestiek laukoteak bizitakoak jasotzen dituzte, musika eta letren bidez forma emandako esperientziak. Ezinbestean, beraz, Mantisaren ibilbide osoaren isla garbia da lehen lan hau. Aurrerantzean zuzenekoekin ariko dira buru-belarri; horixe dute asmoa.
